Old Mahabaleshwar:
Panchaganga temple which is origin of 7 rivers-
Krishna,Koyana,Gayatri,Savitri,Venna, Saraswati and Bhagirathi.Out of them, springs of first
5 are continuously flowing where as the spring corresponds to Saraswati comes alive after
every 60 years (coming in 2034) and the spring correspond to Bagirathi comes after every 12
years (coming in 2016-in marathi month Shrawan) The temple is 4500 years old. After this
temple Krishna flows individually.
Needle Hole / Elephant Head Point :
Needle hole point is located near Kate’s
Point. One can see a natural rock formation with a hole in between, thus giving the name
Needle-hole. The point is also famous for the view of Deccan traps, which look like an
elephant’s trunk.
Venna Lake:
Venna lake is one of the major tourist attractions of Mahabaleshwar in
Maharashtra state in India. The lake was constructed by Shri Appasaheb Maharaj, who was
Raja of Satara in the year 1842. The lake is surrounded by trees on all sides.
Arthur Seat Point :
Officer Sir Arthur Malet (1806–1888)[3](Not to be confused with
British born actor of same name), who sat here and gazed at the Savitri River, where he lost
his wife and children in a tragic ferry mishap.
Lingmala Waterfall:
Lingmala Falls lies on the Mahabaleshwar-Pune Road. Ideal time to visit
the waterfall is from July to December. From the area around the waterfall, beautiful views
of Dhobi Waterfall and Chinaman’s Waterfall can be availed. The falls are ideally viewed
after the rainy season when these are flooded with water, which descents nearly 500 ft from
the cliff.
Bombay Point :
It is called Sunset Point, since the expansive view of the sunset is one of
the most beautiful sights in Mahabaleshwar. It Shows the sahyadri range koyana valley &
pratap garh. One of the most popular and oldest point in Mahabaleshwar. It got it’s name
since it was on the old road to Bombay. Pratapgadh can be seen at north. Lovers point is left
to Bombay Point.
Monkey Point :
Named because of the natural sculpture of the stones which looks like
three monkeys sitting beside each other and portraying 3 monkeys of Gandhiji. Nestled deep
in the valleys one can figure out from the outline of a big stone a natural cut out it give an
effect of 3 monkey sitting next to each other portraying the Three Wise Monkeys. This point
is on route to Arthur’s Seat.
Lodwick Point :
It is one of the greatest locations in Mahabaleshwar.This point is also
known as Sydney point. It was renamed after a monument in honour of General Lodwick .
He was the first European to visit Mahabaleshwar.
Kate’s Point :
It provides a beautiful view of the Krishna Valley and the Dhom Dam. Located
about 5 km away from Venna Lake towards Panchgani, the viewpoint has been named after
Kate, daughter of Sir John Malcom, founder of Mahabaleshwar. Often referred to as Echo
Point, it is known for the huge rock, which stands on the hill having an elevation of 50 m.
Pratapgadh Fort :
Pratapgad is 900 mts. above sea level. It was built in 1656 AD by
Moropant Trimbak Pingale at the command of Shivaji Maharaja to dominate the
road system of the empire. Pratapgad holds an ancient statue of Shivaji called Bale
killa as well as Mahadev and Hanuman temples and a garden. There is a splendid
view of the lush green valley and the forts Raigad and Makarandgad can also be
viewed. On the east and the south the hills have steep slopes covered with dense
forest in contrast with rocky west and the north. The hills gradually descend to the
valleys separating Mahabaleshwar and Kineshwar range on the east and the Konkan
valley on the west.
